Mothers and fathers work together to raise their children with warmth, love, and support. A father ensures a good future for his family by working hard to meet the basic needs of the family. Every parent prioritizes their children over themselves, but a father would go to any length just to protect and ensure the safety of his family. They are also the ones who help us grow and be mature, teach us skills and lessons, gives us real-life experiences, and make sure that we live a comfortable and peaceful life. As someone who has a loving and thoughtful father, I consider myself very lucky to have him as my father — a role model and a true friend of mine. An influential figure who is brave, strong, caring, selfless, and goes above and beyond to give the best for the family.
Father’s Day is a day where we can express our appreciation for all of their sacrifices and hard work for the family by celebrating a very special day with them. Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas and whose father, a Civil War veteran, raised her and her five siblings after their mother died in childbirth, founded Father’s Day at the YMCA in Spokane, Washington in 1910. She is reported to have gotten the idea in 1909 while listening to a sermon on Mother’s Day. Local religious leaders supported the idea, and the first Father’s Day was observed on June 19, 1910, the month of the birthday of Dodd’s father. The day is celebrated on different dates around the world, and each region has its own traditions for honoring fatherhood. It is, however, observed every third Sunday of June in the Philippines. This is a perfect day to show our appreciation for our fathers’ hard work while also making them feel special and appreciated. Although, we should not limit our expressions of gratitude to Father’s Day only. We must always treat them nicely in order for them to be able to start the day happily and do their best in their jobs. It is our obligation as children to bring them joy and to one day repay all of their efforts.
Our father was the first man we have ever loved and the first friend that we have ever made. Our parents are not getting any younger, and as much as we want to, they won’t be by our side forever to guide us in life. We must frequently show our love and appreciation for them in our own unique ways. It should not just be Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, it should be every day that we wake up in the morning with immense gratitude towards our parents for providing us with a happy life that we are living, for protecting us from dangers, for showering us with love, and for being the support system and guiding us in all the life’s path.
To my father, I am very lucky and blessed to have you in my life. You are truly an irreplaceable influential figure in my life. I may not be like the younger me who was very expressive of my love for you and gave you lots of hugs and kisses anymore, but rest assured that my love and appreciation for you have never changed over the past few years of my life. I still look up to you, the same way the younger me has admired you. I love you more than anything in this world. And to all the fathers out there who are doing their best for their families, wishing you all the love and happiness you truly deserve. Happy Father’s Day!
